And God said, “Yes!”

...the Lord has granted the request that I made of him.” - 1 Samuel 1:27

Have you ever felt that God is ignoring your requests? That many times even with an answered prayer, there’s a hitch, a glitch, a snag that somehow dims your satisfaction?

It was with this trepidation I prayed for our family’s 2025 Christmas holidays. You see, my younger son works abroad and it’s only in this season we are complete. My prayer was simple: for a joyful, peaceful, happy family time together. It had been my yearly prayer.

In the past, there was always something big (pandemic) or small (things that threw a wrench in our plans leaving me exhausted, stressed or anxious). It felt like my prayer wasn’t quite answered.

But this time, God said a resounding, “Yes!” We didn’t do anything grand or go somewhere spectacular. We just ate out, went shopping, had a family art session in a coffee shop.

It was simply a peaceful togetherness overflowing with joy.

Even the fly in our ointment of our helper leaving without notice was used by God to knit our family closer. My sons stepped in, proved again how helpful and good they were. The joy, the peace, the happiness was like a warm blanket that enveloped our family and extended even beyond our physical time together to our weekly chats.

It was a wonderful reminder that God does grant requests. Sometimes, His response is immediate, sometimes we have to wait, but when He does say, “Yes!” the joy fills your soul.
